How to Maintain and Extend the Life of Leather Shoes
1. Regular Cleaning
- After each use, remove dust with a soft brush or dry cloth.
- For stains, use a slightly damp (not wet) cloth.
2. Hydration and Conditioning
- Every 3–4 weeks, apply natural leather polish or cream (colorless or matching the shoe color) to prevent dryness and cracking.
- Special oils like mink oil or leather lotion can also work great.
3. Protection Against Moisture
- Avoid exposing leather shoes to heavy rain or snow.
- If they get wet, never dry them in front of a heater or direct sunlight; instead, fill them with newspaper and let them dry at room temperature.
4. Proper Use
- Don’t wear leather shoes every day; let them rest for 24 hours between uses.
- Use a shoe tree (wooden or plastic) inside to maintain their shape.
5. Proper Storage
- Store shoes in a fabric bag or box, not in plastic.
- The storage area should be cool and away from direct sunlight.
6. Timely Repairs
- If the heel or sole wears down, take them to a cobbler quickly to prevent further damage.
