How to Care for Genuine Leather Shoes
👞 1. Regular Cleaning
- After each use, remove dust with a soft brush or dry cloth.
- For stains, use a slightly damp cloth (not too wet).
👞 2. Polishing and Conditioning
- Apply leather cream or polish every 2–3 weeks.
- Leather cream is better than shiny wax because it keeps the leather soft and prevents cracking.
👞 3. Protect from Water and Moisture
- The biggest enemy of leather is water and humidity.
- If shoes get wet, stuff them with newspaper to absorb the moisture and let them dry at room temperature. Never dry in direct sunlight or near a heater.
👞 4. Use Shoe Trees (Preferably Cedar Wood)
- Using a wooden shoe tree, especially cedar, helps keep the shape of the shoes and prevents bad odor.
👞 5. Give Shoes a Rest
- Avoid wearing the same leather shoes every day.
- Give them at least one day of rest to breathe.
👞 6. Proper Storage
- Do not store shoes in a closed box without air circulation.
- Best option: keep them in a fabric bag (not plastic) in a cool, dry place.
👞 7. Prevent Dryness and Cracks
- Occasionally apply natural leather conditioner or cream.
- Avoid olive oil or petroleum jelly, as they can damage the leather’s color and texture over time.
